The Yorkshire Coast really does come alive in summer, and I don’t just mean the cliffs & waters which are teeming with our seasonal feathered visitors!
Summer 2022 is destined to be one to remember with many new events taking place alongside some regular fixtures in the calendar. With the prospect of no restrictions, there’s a palpable sense of excitement and it’s wonderful to see prior years postponed events finally able to take place too!
Here’s our pick of what’s on….
Race the Waves is back! From Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th June you’ll see classic vehicles cruising through Bridlington, with various events centred around Old Town. South Beach though is the place to be on Saturday & Sunday for a unique spectacle when the vintage cars race along the sands.
The first ever Bridlington Pride takes place on Saturday 2nd July 2022 in the Royal Hall at Bridlington Spa with special events running throughout the day.
Burton Agnes Hall hosts its annual Jazz & Blues festivalfrom 8-10th July. I don’t think there could be a better backdrop for a chilled-out weekend, catching some of the UK’s hottest performers. They’ll be some pretty amazing street food to choose from too, all washed down with a few local brews.
Watch out if you happen to be in Beverley between Friday 15th and Sunday 17th July as you may meet some pretty fantastical creatures! The Beverley Puppet Festival plays out on the streets of the town giving everyone the chance to marvel at the work of some of the UK’s best puppet theatre performers.
Escape to the Country anyone? If you long for the rural life, you may well enjoy the Driffield Show which is the biggest event in this thriving market town’s calendar. The two-day event running 20-21st July attracts in the region of 30,000 visitors.
It’s no secret that I LOVE food. Whenever we stay at Number One Seagate, we invariably head over to Malton, AKA the food capital of Yorkshire to browse the array of independent food shops and enjoy a relaxed lunch or dinner. As if a trip to Malton couldn’t get better, the town hosts the fabulous MeadowFest music festival on 30th July held in the riverside meadow of The Talbot Hotel. The day is full of feel-good music vibes mixed with an incredible selection of eats & drinks from the town’s food providers.
Last but not least, I must mention our wonderful neighbours over at Sewerby Hall & Gardens who have an absolutely packed diary of summer entertainment, music and events, with children’s activities planned for every day of the school holidays.
Highlights include the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition running 7th May to 17th July, several classic vintage car rallies and August bank holiday weekend culminates is three nights of outdoor Adventure Cinema, featuring West Wide Story, Mamma Mia! and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Bring your butterbeer and have your wands at the ready!!!
