Explore The Local Area

Within 30 minutes drive of Number One Seagate, there's a wealth of activities and places to visit that will inspire, entertain or just perhaps, take your breath away
The only mainland nesting spot in the UK for gannets can be found a few miles up the coast from Number One Seagate at RSPB Bempton. Along with the gannets, you are sure to spot the industrious puffins from April to September (they just don't stop!). The coastal area is renowned for it's diverse wildlife and at RSPB Bempton, you can really get up close.

Top Tip - On the way to Bempton as you pass through the lanes, it's not uncommon to see Barn Owls flying overhead.
A few miles further up the coast is the seaside town of Filey. It's a little like stepping back in time as you wander through the gardens and down to the seafront. If you're feeling more energetic (and the tide is favourable), the walk out to Filey Brigg is well worth it - you may well spot one of the resident seals sunning themselves on the rocks.

Top Tip - Hire a deckchair and relax in the gardens listening to Sunday afternoon live music from the bandstand during the summer.
The Yorkshire Wolds is an area of rolling chalk hills, grassy valleys and quaint villages that extends from Hessle near the Humber Bridge up to Filey. The 79 mile Wolds Way follows ancient tracks and can be walked in it's entirety or in sections.

Top Tip - The Yorkshire Wolds is the area that has long inspired one of Britain's finest artists, David Hockney. He has painted many local scenes throughout the seasons, capturing the Wolds unspoiled beauty.
Sledmere House & Gardens is a great day out for all ages. As well as the house and gardens, there is a rare breed farm, adventure playground and a top notch farm shop & cafe! Dogs are permitted around the grounds & outside the cafe.

Top Tip - Horses have been kept and bred at Sledmere for centuries. You can visit the historic stables & the shire horse centre, seeing these magnificent animals throughout the year.
The ancient market towns of Beverley and Driffield are bustling hubs within the Yorkshire Wolds. Beverley is dominated by the 12th century Minster and you'll find plenty of shops & eateries in the surrounding quaint cobbled streets. Driffield has similarly long history and remains the busy centre of the Wolds. It's the start of the picturesque Driffield Navigation Canal, built in 18th century and runs all the way down to the Humber Estuary.

Top Tip - Each town still has a thriving street market - Beverley's is held on Saturday, Driffield on Thursday.
How can we not mention Scarborough, or Scarbados as it's known to locals! The original British seaside resort has had a rejuvenation in recent years with trendy cafes & restaurants springing up amongst it's historic buildings and old town. The two sandy beaches are found either side of the castle which rises above the town. Ornate Victorian buildings & gardens still line the cliff tops making you feel like you're stepping back in time.

Top Tip - If you can tear yourself away from the deckchair, perhaps try your hand at surfing or paddleboarding. There's a choice of local businesses providing lessons along the safe North & South beaches or in nearby Cayton.
